An opportunity exists in
Stantec’s Ottawa, ON office
for a highly motivated Intermediate
Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In
this role you will be responsible for the execution of projects ranging in size
and complexity, with a focus on fuel system compliance auditing, tender and bid
preparation, design and construction administration for retail service
stations, petroleum bulk plants, commercial dispensing systems, fuel oil
system, emergency generator fuel systems and aviation fuel systems. The successful candidate will also be responsible for
providing technical mentorship to junior and intermediate mechanical staff,
developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skillsets
with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsiblefor providing technical leadership in fuel system compliance auditing, tenderand bid preparation, design and construction administration.
The successful candidate willbe involved on design projects including, retail service stations, petroleumbulk plants, commercial dispensing systems, fuel oil system, emergencygenerator fuel systems and aviation fuel systems.
Be involved ininspection services including Cathodic Protection Testing, Marine FacilitiesInspections, Petroleum System Troubleshooting, and API Inspection andCertification.
The successful candidate willpossess strong presentation and project management skills.
Provide strong technical mentorship to juniormechanical engineers and technologists in fuel system related projects.
Assist in the development of a business plan to growthe fuel systems revenue and team expertise working alongside the fuelsystems technical lead.
Prepare Technical documentation, specifications anddocuments for bidding and construction.
Prepare detailed engineering design calculations.
Assist with determining the scope and fee for proposedengineering services.
Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in andfor execution of projects, and as appropriate participate inmarketing/business development.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Requisite knowledge and application of the mechanical and/or plumbing
Candidates will have experiencein services as follows: Project Management, Permitting and Site Development,Design, and Inspection of petroleum systems that typically include bulk storagesystems, retail sites, emergency generator/heating systems, and all associatedpiping systems.
Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)registration in the province of Ontario. License to practiceengineering in Quebec is considered an asset.
Mechanical design experience of process piping systemsconsidered an asset.
Good organization, coordination, and project managementskills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
Familiar with contract terminology.
Ability to bring a wide variety of stakeholderstogether to meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable ofwriting reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.
Proven success in developing new business with existingclients and maintaining positive relationships.
Good verbal communication and soft skills.
Familiarity with industry trends and industry leaders relatingto Fuel Regulations, Codes and Standards.
Additional relatedcertifications, including API, petroleum equipment manufacturer’scertifications, and ASME/NACE/STI/API Certifications are a plus.
Ability to work in French is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering. Minimum of 5-6 years of experience in the petroleum industry, working with municipal, provincial, federal, industrial, and commercial clients. Non-engineer candidates with a related bachelor’s degree and proven experience completing similar tasks related to tank and fueling systems will be considered.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
